Nature Is My Muse: The Deeper Meaning Behind My Jewelry

Most people associate Earth Day with tree planting, recycling drives, and awareness campaigns—and all of that is important. But for me, Earth Day has always felt more personal. Maybe it’s because I was born on this day, a little cosmic wink from the universe that my path would always be closely tied to nature.

From an early age, I felt a sense of pride that my birthday coincided with a day meant to honor and protect the planet. It made me feel connected to something bigger, something ancient and wild.

Over the years, that connection has only deepened, especially as I found my voice as a designer and founded Magick Alchemy. Earth Day is no longer just a shared celebration—it’s a reminder of my values, my purpose, and the responsibility I carry with each piece I create.

Leaving Fast Fashion Behind

Before I became a full-time jewelry designer, I worked in the fashion industry. At first, it felt exciting—creative, fast-paced, glamorous in its own way. But the more I learned about the inner workings, the more disillusioned I became. I couldn’t ignore the impact of fast fashion: the overproduction, the waste, the clothing piles in landfills, the pressure to buy, toss, and repeat.

It just didn’t align with the way I saw the world or wanted to live. I didn’t want to be part of a cycle that treated the Earth as disposable.

Walking away wasn’t easy, but it felt right. Jewelry offered me a slower, more intentional way to create. And from the beginning, I knew I wanted Magick Alchemy to reflect my values—care, reverence, and sustainability.

The Alchemy of Nature

Nature is my greatest muse. It always has been. Some of the most profound moments of my life have taken place in nature. I’ll never forget lying under the night sky in Cherry Springs State Park, a designated “dark sky” area in Pennsylvania. For hours, I watched shooting stars, planets, and the Milky Way stretching across the horizon in dazzling clarity. It was like watching the universe breathe.

Or hiking through Yosemite, surrounded by ancient rock formations that felt like they held secrets older than time. Or walking among the energy vortexes and twisted junipers in Sedona, where the Earth seemed to pulse with emotion. In those places, I felt small—in the best way. Humbled. Awed. Reconnected.

Those memories live inside every piece I create.

My Sakura Collection, for example, was born from my lifelong love of cherry blossoms. They bloom every year around my birthday, painting the world in delicate pinks and whispering reminders about the beauty of impermanence. Their fleeting magic inspired me to carve and design pieces that capture that moment in time—the softness of petals, the joy of spring, the rebirth of the earth after winter’s sleep.

But it’s not just flowers. The mountains, oceans, night skies, and even twisted trees like the ones I saw in Sedona—they all show up in my work, consciously or not. My creative process always begins with the Earth, whether I’m sketching CAD designs inspired by sun and moon cycles or carving organic textures into wax that mimic the bark of an ancient tree.

There’s a sacredness in taking something mined from the Earth—gold, gemstones—and turning it into wearable art. I often think about that transformation as a kind of modern alchemy. We’re not creating something new from nothing—we’re honoring what already exists and giving it new life and purpose.

Materials That Matter

When it comes to materials, I believe in full transparency and accountability. All of the gold I use is 100% recycled and refined in the U.S. through United Precious Metal Refining Inc. That means no new mining, no unnecessary extraction—just a closed loop of beauty being reborn.

Most of the gemstones I work with are traceable, sourced from ethical dealers I meet at the Tucson gem shows. These are people who care about the Earth and its communities, who know where the stones come from, and who take pride in cutting and faceting the rough themselves. I love hearing the stories behind each stone—what region it came from, how it was formed—and I always share those stories with my customers.

And of course, everything is packaged with intention too. I use eco-friendly packaging to reduce waste and create a beautiful, sustainable experience from start to finish.

A Life of Intentional Living

Outside of my jewelry practice, I carry these values into my everyday life. I rarely buy new clothes anymore—instead, I thrift and shop secondhand, drawn to the history and quality of pre-loved items. I love rescuing antiques and upcycled furniture, giving forgotten treasures a second chance.

It’s more than just a lifestyle—it’s a mindset shift. One that challenges the idea that we always need something new to feel fulfilled. There’s joy in what already exists, in finding beauty in what others may overlook.

Jewelry With a Message

When someone wears Magick Alchemy jewelry, my hope is that they feel not only beautiful but also connected. Connected to the planet, to their own spirit, to the idea that what we wear can carry meaning far beyond aesthetics.

Jewelry isn’t just about sparkle—it’s about story. It’s about preservation. And in a world that often feels too fast and too loud, it’s a quiet but powerful way to express your values.

I want each piece to serve as a talisman. A reminder that we can live more slowly. More mindfully. That we can choose quality over quantity, intention over impulse.

Earth Day, Every Day

For me, Earth Day isn’t just April 22nd. It’s a daily practice. It’s found in every design choice, every sourcing decision, every package I send. It’s in how I live, how I consume, how I teach others to see the magic of our planet.

And while I don’t pretend to be perfect, I do believe in doing my part. Whether it’s by using recycled metals, supporting ethical gemstone sourcing, or simply encouraging others to pause and notice the beauty around them.

Because Earth isn’t just our home—it’s our teacher, our healer, our muse.

So this Earth Day, and every day after, I invite you to honor her with me. Wear something meaningful. Spend time outside. Reuse, recycle, and reconnect. Let’s keep creating beauty that gives back.
